My plans for future do change a lot, as I'm continuously looking for new nice males, and as we all the time get more information about our breed and it's health situation. I might have a reputation of changing my plans all the time, but that simply is what I like to do; sometimes I just see something that I want more than my previous plans. As they say in Ikea; IT'S OK TO CHANGE YOUR MIND!

Leni might have her Dirtdigger's litter in 2009 if everything works ok. I'm still having some thoughts about her sister having some allergic symptoms; if she gets a diagnose I will not use Leni either.

Papu will have her first litter in the end of 2009 if I can find a suitable male. At the moment I have just some ideas about what I'm looking for. Papu is still so young that I need time to see how she develops. She is a bit short at the moment (11 months) for my taste. She is a tough lady with strong own will, but at the same time she is very positive and does her naughty things with a smile on her funny little face.

Peppis Dirtdigger's litter will be in 2010. I have some ideas about her male, but she needs to grow up a bit before I make any decisions.

Pixie is just a baby, so I don't even think about her yet. I co-own her with a breeder collegue and we will make oyur breeding decisions together, as well as share the litters. It's interesting and fun to work together with someone who thinks much the same way than I do. She also has a lot more experience than I do, so I learn from her all the time.

Quality instead of quantity

Dirtdigger's kennel is keeping the volume small to keep the standard high. So far I only had one litter per year. In 2006 I didn't have any litters, but instead did much planning for the future. I also made deals and bought new dogs, as well as gave away my parts of two males. I have breeding rights of some males. I have made several reservations for a puppy from other breeders. I will see more closely if I want them when the breeders have decided what combinations they are making. Some of the bitches are still pups, so it's impossible to see at this point how they develop. It is interesting to co-operate with breeder colleaques.

My plan for future is to increase the amount of bitches, but never have more than one breeding bitch at home. I like to have Jack's Paradise genes as the "red line" in my breeding; JP-dogs are what a jack russell is supposed to be like. I also like the great amount of true terrier in them; they are no poodles, but they can also relax. I need my russells to have enough temperament packed together with calm and relaxed way of being. They are not supposed to be too soft, there must be drive in them. Yet a true jack russell is never aggressive, unless it has a good reason to defend itself or the family.

My bitches are placed in homes where they can have their litters in their own surrounding. I want to do this as comfortable for the dogs as it can be done, never increasing the stress level of a pregnant bitch more than is necessary. No bitch will come to my house just for having a litter. Dogs are not machines, they have very strong instinct to keep together with their pack. I think it's cruel to pull a bitch out of her pack to a totally strange surrounding as she is having her first litter. If I place a bitch, it doesn't necessary mean that I would use her for breeding. I only use the one's I think are good enough to produce Dirtdigger's pups.
